Refund Policy
TaxStand is built on the principle that a flat fee for a clear deliverable should mean exactly that. No contingency fees, no hidden charges, no auto-renewals — and a refund policy you can read without a lawyer.
The short version
1. Eligible for full refund
You are entitled to a full refund of the $249 packet fee (or applicable price at time of purchase) if any of the following apply:
- Pre-filing 30-day window. You've purchased a packet but have not yet uploaded or otherwise submitted it as part of a protest filing with your county appraisal district, and the request is made within 30 days of purchase.
- Material packet error. The packet contains material factual errors that we caused (e.g., we pulled the wrong property record, or our analysis contains a computational error) AND those errors materially affect the usability of the packet. We will offer either a corrected packet, a full refund, or both, at your option.
- Service delivery failure. We failed to deliver your packet within 5 business days of payment confirmation, and you no longer want the packet.
- County not supported. If you purchased a packet for a property in a Texas county we have not yet built support for and we cannot deliver a packet for that county. (We try to prevent this with checkout-time county validation, but if it happens, full refund.)
2. Not eligible for refund
The following do not qualify for a refund:
- Your protest didn't succeed. The packet is the deliverable. Whether your protest results in a reduction depends on factors outside our control — the discretion of the CAD and ARB, your presentation, the strength of the underlying data for your neighborhood. We make no guarantee of outcome, and protest outcomes are not grounds for refund.
- You changed your mind after filing. Once you've uploaded the packet as part of your CAD protest filing or used it at a hearing, the service has been used as intended.
- You forgot to file before May 15. Statutory deadlines are your responsibility. The packet was delivered; missing the filing window does not entitle you to a refund.
- Your homestead exemption was lapsed and we identified it, but you chose not to file Form 50-114 separately. The packet's diagnosis was correct and delivered; what you did with it is on you.
- Buyer's remorse beyond 30 days. After 30 days from purchase, we do not offer refunds for un-filed packets unless one of the other conditions applies.
3. How to request a refund
Email hello@taxstand.us with:
- Subject line: "Refund Request — [your order number]"
- Your name and the email address used at purchase
- Reason for the refund request (one or two sentences is enough)
- If applicable, a description of the packet error or service failure
We will respond within 2 business days. Approved refunds are processed via the original payment method (typically Stripe), and typically appear back on your card within 5-10 business days.
4. Disputes
If we and you disagree about whether a refund is warranted, we will attempt to resolve the disagreement in good faith. We commit to:
- Reviewing your specific situation, including any evidence you provide
- Offering at least a partial refund or remedy when there is any reasonable doubt about the packet's accuracy or our service delivery
- Not initiating a payment-card dispute against you for any properly-paid refund request
If we cannot resolve the matter, the dispute resolution provisions in our Terms of Service apply (Texas governing law, Tarrant County courts).
5. Chargebacks
Initiating a credit-card chargeback without first contacting us is generally counterproductive — Stripe's chargeback fees significantly exceed the cost of issuing a refund directly, and we'd rather just resolve the issue with you. Please email us first; we are not difficult.
That said, your right to dispute a charge with your card issuer is fundamental and we will not retaliate against you for exercising it. We may, however, share with the card network any evidence we have of packet delivery, customer communication, and the timeline of service when responding to a dispute.
6. Sales tax refunds
When we issue a refund, any Texas sales tax we collected on the original charge is refunded along with the principal. We do not retain sales tax on refunded purchases.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this refund policy from time to time. The terms in effect at the time of your purchase are the terms that govern your transaction. Material changes will be communicated to active customers via email at least 14 days before they take effect.
